GURUVAYOOR TEMPLE

Guruvayoor Temple is one of the most famous of the south Indian Temples. I got married there. Never been much of a temple goer throughout my life. Last month I visited Guruvayoor along with my family and friends, a maverick gang. Half of us refused to go in, we are atheists. The other half are muslims and also atheists. Finally one athiest escorted my sis-in-law and sister and did whatever they had to do.

I am told that the insides of the temple have a grandiose look, what with the dome being plated with gold leaf and all that. I do not believe that god keeps tabs on these things.

But the sculpts of goddesses look enticing all the same. Here we are clicked in front of them on the most important day of our lives.

We got married at Guruvayoor.

You could have posted your poem 'Monsoon Wedding' along with this write-up, for those who have not read it. Rgds.

Good post.
Some years back I went inside a church with a Christian friend and attended the Sunday congregation. I performed every act that is part of the rite. After that many Muslim friends castigated me -- being a Muslim how dare you bow before Christ and pray in a church? I enjoyed their criticism immensely -- and will happily go to a church/mandir/gurdwara again.

Dear Mr. Madhusudanan
The poem is below average. I would not give it pass marks, though the closing lines sound prophetic - something about past being eclipsed by present and future.

Dear Kazim
Our wedding was attended by Santosh's friend, a Muslim. He came right inside the sanctum sanctorum, though this act is illegal. I do not know whether I shall be castigated for this revelation.

You know something...Veni's cousin sister is married to a Guruvayoorite (Hariyettan). He used to work in Muscat long time back. I did have a big argument with him ....why does the Temple play Dr. K.J. Yesudas's Bhakthi songs loud and clear through the speakers(those days...it was a practice) and you guys never ever let him inside the Temple.????
Strange.... but later they did stop playing songs too !!!! (That made sense to me ....)

Dear Gem

God would surely be at Jesudas's feet listening to his heavenly music. Heard of the Udupi Krishna temple, where the deity's face is turned towards his fervent devotee, Purandharadasan who was denied entry into the temple due to his caste?

That certainly could be god!
