MUSHROOMS

MUSHROOMS

By

CHANDINI SANTOSH

Last week
I chugged past
My ancestral house
Perhaps I should clarify:
The place where my long ago house stood

A tall and hasty building
Rose at the site
A large mushroom
From the rains

I sit at these cold slabs of stone
Without knowing
That houses are built
On old desires
And their ruins

The drawing you see above is done with oil pastels and my niece's glitter pens.

Indeed, Chandni, mushrooms that crumble at a breeze, maybe not literally

Dear Petra
Busy as in Busybee. Polishing my novel for the very last time.

Dear Suneetha
Where can I get Bapsi sidhwa's books? Do give me the no. of the bookstore if you have it. And yes, what have you been doing, if I may ask?

Dear Cadbury
Yes. Writing away to glory. Also doing oil pastel sketches and ball pen portraits. The latest one is huge. It needs to be framed now. All this after the mammoth rains that we are having over here.

Thanks Suneetha. I too used to buy books from Modern Books, TVM.

I am reading Nadeem Aslam's 'Maps for Lost Lovers' at the moment. It is very lyrical, but I do not like the sub continental style of language that he indulges in. It feels as though the book has not been edited well enough, though I do not know for sure. The subject and the treatment is exotic. But it does not satisfy me. The language jars!
